GG Tech Labs built India Metro as a metro-transit utility app — journey planning, live-ish schedules, fares, and station info for Indian metro networks. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use it.
By using the app, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.
Information We Collect
1. Information You Choose to Provide
You may select a city, search or plan a journey between stations, mark stations as favourites, and the app keeps a local history of recent journeys and trips. None of this requires a name, email, phone number, or account — the app has no sign-in.
All of this is stored locally on your device only, in app preferences. We do not transmit your favourites, journey history, or trip records to any server we operate.
We do not collect personally identifiable information such as your name, phone number, address, Aadhaar number, PAN number, bank account details, passwords, or payment information — the app has no financial or payment feature of any kind.
2. Location Information
The app requests coarse and fine location permission to power the Nearby screen (showing stations close to you) and to help centre the map. Location is read on-device to compute distances and is not sent to us. You can deny or revoke this permission at any time in your device settings — the rest of the app continues to work, with Nearby simply unable to sort by distance.
3. City and Station Data (Firebase Realtime Database)
The app downloads metro network data — station names, coordinates, lines, fares, facilities, and service alerts — from Firebase Realtime Database (a Google service we configure) so the app can stay current without a full app update. This is a one-way download: no information about you, your device, or your journeys is sent in order to fetch it, and this database is never used to store user data.
4. Crash and Diagnostics Data (Optional)
The app can use Firebase Crashlytics to collect crash reports and diagnostic information when it encounters an error, to help us find and fix bugs. This is off by default — Crashlytics only collects data if you turn it on in Settings.
When enabled, Crashlytics may collect:
- Stack traces and error logs at the time of a crash
- Device state such as available memory, battery level, and OS version
- A randomly generated installation identifier (not linked to your personal identity)
- App version and the crash timestamp
Crash reports do not include your favourites, journey history, or trip records.
5. Advertising Information
The app displays banner ads and occasional, frequency-limited interstitial ads after route searches using Google AdMob. AdMob may use an advertising identifier (such as the Android Advertising ID) to show ads. You can reset or opt out of ad personalization from your device settings under Google → Ads.
Where an ongoing consent choice is legally required (for example in the European Economic Area and the UK), the app shows a consent form on first launch, via Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP), and provides a "Manage ad consent" option in Settings so you can review or change that choice at any time.
6. Home-Screen Widget
The app offers an optional home-screen widget showing your selected station/favourites. If you add it, the values it displays are drawn from data already stored on your device and rendered by your device's launcher. Widget content may be visible to anyone who can see your home screen. No widget data is transmitted anywhere; removing the widget stops it being displayed.
7. Shared Journey Links
The app lets you share a planned journey (e.g. via messaging apps) as a link containing only station identifiers and, optionally, a city — no personal data. This is a private link scheme handled entirely by apps on your device; we do not operate a server that sees or logs these links.
8. Android System Backup
Android's own backup service may include this app's locally stored data (favourites, recent journeys, preferences) in the device backup associated with your Google account, if you have device backup enabled in your Android settings. This is a system feature managed by Google and your device settings, not by us. You can turn device backup off in your Android system settings.
Third-Party Services
The app uses the following third-party services. Each operates under its own privacy policy:
- Google Play Services — required for core Android functionality
- Google Maps SDK — renders the geographic map view
- Firebase Realtime Database — downloads city/station/fare/alert data; stores no user data
- Firebase Crashlytics — optional, off by default; collects crash reports to improve stability
- Google AdMob — displays advertisements within the app
- Google User Messaging Platform (UMP) — collects and records your advertising consent choice where required by law
You can review their privacy policies here:
How We Use Information
- To provide journey planning, fares, schedules, and station information
- To show nearby stations, if you grant location permission
- To remember your favourites, recent journeys, and trip history on your device
- To keep metro network data (stations, fares, alerts) current without an app update
- To detect, diagnose, and fix app crashes, if you enable crash reporting
- To show ads within the app
- To display any home-screen widget you have added
- To maintain app security and prevent misuse
Advertising
The app displays ads using Google AdMob. Advertising services may use cookies, advertising identifiers, or similar technologies to show personalized or non-personalized ads.
You can control ad personalization from your device settings or Google account settings, and — where the option is shown — from "Manage ad consent" in the app's Settings screen.

Data Storage
- Your favourites, recent journeys, trip history, and preferences are stored locally on your device only.
- Metro network data (stations, fares, alerts) is downloaded from Firebase Realtime Database and cached on your device; nothing about you is sent to fetch it.
- Crash reports, if you enable them, are sent to Firebase Crashlytics (Google) servers.
- We hold no copy of your favourites, journeys, trip history, or any personal information. We do not operate a server that stores user data.
- We do not sell your personal information.
Data Sharing
We do not sell, trade, or rent users' personal information to any third party.
Third-party services used in the app — Google Maps, Firebase Realtime Database, Firebase Crashlytics, and Google AdMob — may process data according to their own privacy policies as described above.
Data may also be shared when required by law, regulation, legal process, or enforceable government request.
Your Choices and Controls
- Location — grant, deny, or revoke location permission anytime in device settings; Nearby simply won't sort by distance without it.
- Crash reporting — off by default; toggle in Settings → Data & Privacy.
- Manage ad consent — where legally required, Settings → Data & Privacy → Manage ad consent. You can also reset or opt out of the advertising identifier in your device settings.
- Clear your data — remove favourites, clear recent journeys, or clear trip history from within the app.
- Delete everything — all app data lives on your device; uninstalling the app removes it completely.
If you have a question about your data, or believe data has been collected in error, contact us at gg.tech.labs@gmail.com and we will respond as soon as reasonably possible.
Data Retention
Data you generate (favourites, journeys, trips) stays on your device until you delete it or uninstall the app — we do not retain it, because we never receive it. Crash data, if enabled, is retained by Google under Firebase Crashlytics' retention settings.
Children's Privacy
India Metro is a general-audience transit utility, not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the app, contact us at gg.tech.labs@gmail.com so we can take appropriate action.
Security
We take reasonable steps to protect information. Your favourites, journeys, and trip data stay on your device and are never transmitted to our servers. However, no method of electronic storage or internet transmission is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security for data handled by third-party services or for a device you share with others.
Links to Other Websites
The app may contain links to external websites such as Google Play Store pages or support resources. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those third-party websites.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. We recommend reviewing this page periodically for updates.
